The Ultimate Guide to Choosing Memory Foam Mattresses: 5 Essential Tips for Optimal Sleep

      by Bob Mills Furniture

It’s been 8 or 10 years and your mattress has sadly sunken in, right in the middle. You are without a doubt tossing and turning in discomfort all night, aren’t you?  Replacing your mattress can go one of two ways; exhausting or super simple. This all depends on if you’ve taken some time to learn about the different kinds of mattresses available and how they can impact your sleep, posture and overall health. Or, did you make the mistake of spending an entire day going to store after store just to find yourself even more confused? Well, why guess when you can know?

The type of mattress each person needs varies upon personal preference and support needed. If you are armed with KNOWING what your body needs for support, by going to the Bob Mills Sleep Spa, you are starting ahead of the pack. Either way, if you are just starting your search for the ideal mattress, here are 5 things you should never forget.

      1. Invest Wisely: Prioritize Quality When Buying a Mattress

These days, there are “TRUCK LOADS” of mattress sales everywhere. You’re even bombarded with “ON-LINE” mattress radio ads. Quite frankly, it can be easy to get sucked in!

Try to remember that your mattress should last you around 10 years. So, if you start with a $1000 mattress, over a period of 10 years you’re looking at around $0.27 a day. It seems, that your health would be worth a lot more that 25 cents a day! So, if you don’t make an investment in your mattress, you’re probably getting poor quality, lower durability (forget lasting 10 years) and substantially less support.

      2. Exploring Mattress Types: Finding Your Perfect Fit

      • Latex mattress: Features a layer of natural latex foam or a combination of synthetic blended latex foam materials. These mattresses are supportive and deliver a cool sleeping experience with continuous airflow. They are also designed to absorb motion transfer, to help reduce sleep disruption.
      • Foam mattress: uses Visco-elastic foam, which we know as memory foam. The highly engineered foam compresses slowly when initial pressure is applied and forms to the shape of the body resting on it. The difference between Visco elastic foam and other types of polyurethane foam is its slow response and low resistance. One of the newest in foam technology is GRAPHENE memory foam. It provides for superior support and natural spinal alignment associated with memory foam. It can be found in the Signature Series of the Bob Mills Sleep Spa. It’s made in the USA and has a lifetime warranty.
      • A pocket coil mattress: This is a spring made of steel gauge wire that’s individually wrapped in a fabric sleeve. Pocket coils have replaced traditional innerspring systems because of their durability, reduced motion transfer and superior support.
      • A hybrid mattress: This mattress shares the best of two or more sleep systems within one mattress construction. The most common hybrid mattress design includes top layers of foam (cooling gel foams, transition foams and responsive poly foams) PLUS a bottom support base constructed of individually wrapped pocket coils.

      3. Temperature Regulation: Sleep Cool and Comfortable

Today’s choices in mattresses are highly engineered systems. In addition to responding to the pressure of the body, most react to heat by drawing excess warmth away from the body.

Latex, Foam, and Hybrid mattresses can have open-cell or closed-cell composition. Closed-cell foams have closed cell structures, meaning that air is sealed in the individual air pockets. Open-cell foam has tiny "holes" in the cell walls, which allows air to pass through the material. Most foam mattresses use open-cell foam because of its breathability, which keeps the sleep surface cool. Many utilize temperature regulating fabrics and cross flow grid foam to even further assist with temperature regulation, and now with the new GRAPHENE memory foam, you are ensured an even more advanced dissipation of heat.

So, you can finally sleep WITHOUT sweating the bed!

      4. Balancing Support and Firmness for Ideal Sleep

      • Good support simply means that it keeps your spine in proper alignment without creating pressure points.
      • Firmness is how hard or soft a mattress feels.
      • If a mattress does not offer adequate support, you will more than likely wake up sore or in pain. Firmness relates more to how comfortable a mattress feels initially. Whether hard or soft, the optimal firmness level goes together with comfort.
      • The goal is to be able to relax on a support system that contours to your body and gives you the restful sleep you’ve been missing.
